By David McNew / ReutersThe first time you take herbalife or any other prescription medicine, you’re in for a treat.
But the product also comes with a host of health risks, including cancer, heart disease, arthritis, obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart failure, and some types of birth defects.
In addition, there are some serious side effects that can cause severe side effects like diarrhea, dizziness, loss of consciousness, and even death.
So what’s the best way to know what you’re getting into?
“You can get into it if you’re looking for the best and safest way to take it,” says Dr. Michael S. Gertz, a gastroenterologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
“But if you want to see if it’s a good alternative for you, it’s probably not the best option.”
Dr. Gervais has a prescription for herbalife.
It’s called “Egg-o-Meal.”
“This is the most effective, most well-known form of herbalife,” Gervas says.
“It’s produced in China and marketed under the name ‘egg-o’-meal.'”
The egg-o’meal is made with a special extract that contains 100 percent plant-derived omega-3 fatty acids.
And it contains no cholesterol.
“So there’s no cholesterol in it,” Gerts says.
“It’s not the same thing as butter, it doesn’t contain butterfat, it has no saturated fat,” he adds.
“The only way to get saturated fat is to eat eggs, and it’s not available in any other form.”
It’s also a lot less expensive than regular aspirin.
But Gervays isn’t a fan of the FDA’s labeling rules, so he has no plans to stop using it.
“I’m a firm believer in the use of products that have the lowest risk, and the lowest benefit, so I don’t see a reason to change anything,” he says.
He also warns against the side effects.
“There are some pretty serious side reactions, which include nausea, dizzyness, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, diarrhea, vomiting, and severe liver damage,” he explains.
“Some of these are very serious, so they have to be managed.”
Dr Gervans’ prescription for the egg-oh-meal comes from his doctor.
It contains a blend of omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids and is formulated to be safe and effective.
Gervais also says he doesn’t take the medicine for allergies, since it contains a mix of different ingredients.
“The ingredients I take contain omega-7 fatty acids, so if you have a problem with your omega-8, you may want to try another kind of omega,” he tells ABC News.
Dr. Michael Gervasiels prescription for egg-oo-mole is from his gastroenterology doctor.
He says the combination of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids makes it a great option for people with allergies.
“For allergies, the only alternative to egg-mellon and egg-omega-3 is egg-egg, so that’s what I take,” he notes.
“So it’s definitely a very, very safe and safe option.”
While you can get a prescription from your doctor for egg yolks, Dr. Gavas says the most common ingredient in the medicine is the omega-5, and that’s not all.
“We are trying to find a way to make egg yolk safe to eat, but we can’t do it without the omega 3s,” he concludes.
