In January, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced it would spend $250 million to create a fiber production line in Kentucky, the first of its kind.
But to produce the new lines, Kentucky’s Fiberglas Corp. has developed an innovative technology known as a “flex” that makes it possible to use glass to create the type of fibers that could be used to make more durable phone cases and other components.
In fact, the new line, called Flex Fiber, uses the same technology as the UPC-based Flex Phone, a fiberglass-backed phone case.
The new Flex Phone uses the company’s FlexFlex technology, which has already been adopted by the likes of Nike, Adidas and the New York Jets.
But this new line will be the first to use a new type of fiber called “flex-film,” which is far more durable and can be made with a much smaller area.
