President Donald Trump lashed out at “fake news” in a tweet Tuesday night, calling it a “disgrace” to his presidency.
The tweet, in response to a story from the website Axios that claimed that Trump was working on a deal with Democratic lawmakers to pass a healthcare bill, has drawn criticism from Republicans, who say the president has been too eager to sign legislation in the meantime.
“The Fake News Media is going crazy with their conspiracy theories and blind hatred,” Trump wrote.
“Their Fake News media must be Fake News.”
Trump was referring to Axios’ report that the president is developing a deal to pass healthcare legislation in Congress, a report that Trump has dismissed as “fake” and “totally made up.”
In a series of tweets, Trump accused Axios of attempting to “destroy” his presidency, and said that the media would be blamed for the outcome.
“Fake News Media, they will be blamed.
The Fake News press has been a total disaster.
Sad!” he tweeted.
“I will be making a deal for you to pass the healthcare bill and then you can put your Fake News agenda in writing.
It will be a great deal.
We will get a great healthcare deal.
You will be allowed to put your agenda in the record and you will be free to go and tweet about it!”
Trump added that Axios was “going crazy.”
“They are a total disgrace to America,” he added.
“They have ruined our lives.
They are a disgrace to this great country.”
