More than half of the brands on News.co.nz’s 100 best-selling vehicles are made by premium manufacturers.
The list includes Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari and Toyota.
The top five are: Porsche has the most premium-spec cars with more than 60 per cent of the vehicles sold by the brand.
A number of premium cars are made in the United States and imported from Europe.
The most popular cars in the Top 10 include the Porsche Cayenne and the Porsche Panamera.
“Porsche’s cars are the most well-known, but their range has also grown in recent years, so there’s more competition for buyers to choose from,” Dr Koehler said.
Dr Koehl said the brand’s latest model, the Panamera S, is a classic with “a very attractive styling and design”.
“It’s a very attractive and modern car, and it’s very successful.
It’s the fastest selling vehicle of the brand in Australia, so it has a great future ahead,” she said.
Dr Koeshler said the company had sold around 10 million Panamera cars worldwide since 2006.
Purchasing power has grown since then, with sales of the car up 20 per cent in the past two years.
Its sales growth has been fuelled by the introduction of a new Panamera model in 2018.
There are currently more than 1.4 million Panammas in the market, and the number is expected to grow by around 50 per cent over the next five years.
